An official delegation of Brazilian experts on Food Security and Poverty Alleviation visited Islamabad between November 30 and December 5.

The delegation comprised Marina Lima, from the Secretary for Family Agriculture of the Ministry of Agrarian Development; Vicente Puhl, Special Advisor for the Development Programme, Presidency of the National Company for Food Supply; Cassia Amaral, from the General Co-ordination of the National School Feeding Programme, National Fund for the Development of Education of the Ministry of Education; Edgard Aparecido de Moura, Counsellor at the National Council of Food and Nutritional Security; Marcos Lopes, General Co-ordination of International Actions to Combat Hunger, and Cynthia Jones, Deputy Director of the World Food Programme Centre of Excellence, in Brasilia.

The Brazilian delegation held high-level meetings at the National Agriculture Research Centre (Narc) with members of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (Parc), World Food Programme (WPF), FAO, Unicef, Oxfam, Action Contre La Faim, Save the Children, USAID, DFID, Australian Co-operation, SDPI, and also with representatives of the provinces. They also shared their expertise in a full day seminar hosted by the Brazilian Embassy, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, WFP, FAO and SDPI at a hotel. They shed light on the Brazilian Policies on Food Security and Poverty Alleviation. The main theme of this seminar was to address the characteristics of the Brazilian Zero Hunger Programme (Programa Fome Zero).-PR
